5 European feed and food law The feed hygiene regulation (EC No. 183/2005, which became effective 1 January 2006) lays down a set of measures on hygiene, traceability and conditions and arrangements for establishments. The focus of the regulation is on the safety of animal feed, which is the primary responsibility of the operators in the feed chain. One of the most important aspects of this regulation is the registration of establishments and rules for record keeping and improved traceability throughout the entire feed chain.

AIDC allows fast, direct and secure exchange of information between information systems and the food processing chain, thus reducing the errors and costs. If identification standards are followed, items can be traced along the complete food chain.
